Barnet is part of Greater London, some 10 miles to the north-west of Charing Cross. It is the location of the Battle of Barnet, where Yorkist King Edward IV defeated and killed Lancastrian Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick.
It is the location of a well-known horse fair, and has become adopted into the infamous Cockney Rhyming Slang as the term for hair - " Barnet Horse Fair" rhymes with "hair", so "barnet" for short.
